LAST RIDE

DIRECTED by GLENDYN IVIN

Feature film starring Hugo Weaving and Tom Russell.

Written by Mac Gudgeon, Produced by Nick Cole and Antonia Barnard.

"A masterpiece." Roger Ebert

WHEN HIS FATHER BUNDLES HIM INTO THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, TEN-YEAR-OLD CHOOK KNOWS SOMETHING IS WRONG.

As the two escape into the desert facing an unknown future, their troubled relationship and the need to survive sees them battling the elements and each other.

Both beautiful and harsh, Last Ride is a journey of heartbreak and hope. Hugo Weaving delivers a career-defining performance alongside newcomer Tom Russell. As Kev and Chook they reveal a complex and moving relationship in which friendship, betrayal, loyalty and love is portrayed with a raw and poetic urgency.

In taking the story from script to screen, Ivin sought to capture a sense of the experience of Kev and Chook by assembling a small crew and making a similar trip themselves. The six week shoot saw the cast and crew navigate over 5000kms of rough and remote country, allowing the journey to fuel the team's desire to capture the ever-changing landscape and the drama of the characters deepening predicament with a stunning yet truthful realism.

Last Ride's tension slowly burns to a powerful and redemptive climax. In the isolation and beauty of the desert, the shifting bonds between father and son proves that love runs deep.
